When the WSATF was created four years ago, it was
our goal to include all correctional employees
across the state, including County jail staff.
Hence the name Washington Staff Assault Task
Force TM, as opposed to Washington State Assault Task
Force.
It doesn't matter whether it's a jail or a prison, the need for
correctional staff to have the ability to
voluntarily join an organization that is dedicated
to protecting their own, should not be limited by
jurisdictions or agencies - we all have dangerous
jobs. Each day, whether they are State or County,
correctional employees face the real possibility
of violent assault, whether it is in the Pierce
County Jail, or at the Washington State
Penitentiary.
The Task Force appreciates the dangers encountered
by Jail Staff. Dealing with “free people,” jailers
and deputies are often exposed to inebriated,
intoxicated, or drug fueled prisoners and the
dangers associated with their behaviors.
